Oaks Lily Inspired Margarita

This week is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I was born and raised in the beautiful bluegrass state of Kentucky, and this week is Derby week! Friday is the Kentucky Oaks, which is the Thoroughbred  fillies race and your encouraged to Think Pink, as Churchill Downs partners with Bright Pink, a nation non profit organization that focuses on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer. In the Louisville area its a holiday, schools are closed and even some businesses. It is our tradition in our home to make the traditional Oaks Lily, watch the running of the Oaks, and then in Derby Eve fashion watch Secretariat. With Cinco De Mayo falling on Oaks day this year, I thought it would be fun to make a twist on the Oaks Lilly because you need a Margarita to celebrate the 5th day of May! This recipe is delicious and may be a regular on my list of cocktails.

Here is what you need to serve 2

2oz of Tequila

2oz of Fresh squeezed lime juice mixed with agave

6oz Cranberry Juice

A double splash of triple sec

Mix all the ingredients together in shaker, I used a mason jar with lid. You could also use sweet and sour mix in place of the lime juice and agave which is what the original Oaks Lily calls for, I am just not a fan and for a good Margarita I want fresh squeezed lime juice. These are super tasty and sure to be a hit all summer long!
