All You Need to Know about Toy Story Land

I was lucky enough to attend the opening of Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World  and wow what a TOYreffic experience. If you don’t know I used to be a cast member at Walt Disney World.  I was a manager on the opening team for New Fantasyland. That was an incredible experience, but this time I wanted to experience it as a guest.

Friday night the day before opening, about 5 pm we actually got even more lucky and they soft opened the land. So I spent the time getting to take it all in. We got back ( we had just left 30 minutes prior) to Hollywood Studios about 45 minutes after they opened. We were able to get on Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers within 2 hours. Then enjoyed a late dinner at Woody’s Lunch Box, and a very quite land as the park had closed. Honestly it was so cool!

The next 6 months to a year in this land are going to be very busy. Once Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens and a lot of the attention will head there. Toy Story Land will still stay very popular because Star Wars will attract a different crowd. I will say once they also really get the hang of wait times that will make a big difference as well.

Hollywood Studios has been pretty absent of a lot of attractions with the new lands in the works. Toy Story Land will also draw a new crowd of people who have since chosen to skip this park. I did think the park would feel much different once the land opened but honestly it didn’t.

So here are some details you will need to know for planning.

There are three attractions in Toy Story Land. All three attractions are currently a tier one attraction. You can only Fast Pass one of them when booking your initial Fast Passes.

Toy Story Mania

The long loved Toy Story Mania now has its entrance in this new land. It also now has 3 tracks which should help with the wait times. Since this attraction has been around for a while it’s most likely to have the smaller wait of the three. However they did an amazing job at the new que. We also got to experience the new track side and that was awesome. Not to mention the walls!

Slinky Dog Dash

This coaster is so cute, fun and the perfect addition to Walt Disney World. It does have a 38in height requirement so keep that in mind. I would have Slinky be your top priority when booking your fast pass as it will be the more sought after of all the attractions. I have to say after getting to ride the attraction 4 times it’s one of my all time favorite attractions, maybe even my favorite.

Slinky Dog Dash is a great mix of thrill for adults, with being fun and cute for kids too. They really did an amazing job with this new attraction.

Alien Swirling Saucers

This attraction is much different from the tea cup, which when I heard about it I thought it may be like. I definitely have the ability to handle it without feeling totally nauseous. While I’ve never been to Disneyland I’ve heard several people state that it reminds them of Maters Spin out in Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure.

Our Opening Day Strategy for the attractions was to head to the Slinky Dog Dash again because we loved it , then to check out Woodys Lunch Box for breakfast and explore the land some. We had done Alien Swirling Saucers already during soft open and decided that didn’t have to be a priority. We had Fast Passes for Toy Story Mania in the evening which was perfect to ensure if needed we got back into the area in the evening. What we did was ride Slinky Dog Dash, snagging an Alien Popcorn bucket, and waiting a very short time to see Woody, Jessie, and Buzz all together.

Sunday during Extra Magic Hours Rope Drop we headed straight to Slinky again, then hopped on Alien Swirling Saucers and had completed both attractions by 8am when the park opened. Then we were able to snag breakfast at Woody’s Lunch Box, and use our Toy Story Mania Fast Pass all before 9 am. So if you don’t see characters and are really into planning you can do the land easily in 2 hours time. However, also take time to explore the details are amazing.

When I went back Sunday evening all the craze and wait to get in had died down. Attractions did still have a decent wait time but at no time on Sunday was there a wait to get in the actual land so I don’t think we will be seeing that again.

Dining

Woody’s Lunch Box is the only quick service dining in the land. They are open for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. I’m interested to see if breakfast will stick around here or not because with Pandora we saw it get pulled around 6 months in with the exception of busier seasons. Let’s hope it does stick around because it was fantastic. I was pleased with all the food we had here at breakfast and dinner. I’ve got a full review coming on this!

Character Meet and Greets

Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear are available for guest in the land. However they have no designated meet and greet areas. We were told they would be mostly roaming as toys in Andy’s backyard. Opening weekend they all three met together in the old meeting and greet area.

On Monday Buzz was still in the old meet and greet and Woody and Jessie had been planted near Midway Mania. For now this seems to be their new homes in the land. The old meet and greet area is now closed off. ( RIP Pixar Place) and Buzz is now in the land out front of Slinky Dog where the Jessie statue is.

You will also find the Green Army men floating through the land. They will often stop for a quick picture if they aren’t doing one of their little parades.

Merchandise

There is actually no merchandise location in the land. Two permanent merchandise carts , and a few cast pushing carts around are available but its limited. The old sweet spells location has become a Toy Story and Pixar store.

There is very little shade if much at all in the land. It’s Florida and it’s hot so be prepared for that. Have extra sunscreen, a hat, an umbrella for rain or shade, water. Even a fan ( snag me favorite fan pictured below here)

The lines are going to be long everywhere for quite sometime so just be prepared. I will say that both lines did have fans and even water fountains so that was a big plus.

I’ll be totally honest, I’m obsessed with this land and it made my love for Toy Story grow. I was already a big fan! The details are just absolutely incredible. I was a kid again, giddy and excited each time I walked in. So much so I was there every day of my trip except for Thursday since it clearly wasn’t opened then.

I ate ALL the food, experienced the beautiful land, rode the attractions and was a kid again in Andy’s backyard!

Experiencing the opening and the entire weekend of the opening was different than I expected but in a very good way! I was expecting total chaos and if you saw opening day crowds it was chaos but I was lucky enough to be one of the first probably 100 guest in the park on opening day. When we went back in the evening it was completely different than it was when we left that morning. It’s truly an experience I’ll never forget!

Are you excited for Andy’s back yard? What are you most excited about?
